I don’t know if any of you wise folk out there can share your own experiences with this phenomenon which occurs in life, or if it even happened in the same fashion as me. What I do know, is that it is a kind of bittersweet revelation. Today is the day I stopped being a college student, and became a young adult.

I’m not quite finished my undergraduate degree, and not ready to enter the workforce, but what I have come to realize recently is that I have outgrown the first half of my university career. Now, this is hardly business related, but learning about one’s self is an important tool for growth – and in business, we all love to talk about growth, growth models, growth forcasts, and so on.

I will always remember frosh week, the blurry weekends and weeknights, keggers, hangovers and the like – and I’m sure there are more times such as this in my future. The point I would like to make here is that in order to grow as a university student and a young adult, you need to realize the point at which you need to start having more “responsible fun”. I know those two words are unlikely to ever be in the same sentence again, but like me, you will or already have reached this point in life and you finally understand. I thought the 24-hour party which is first year would continue forever. I would always be able to balance excessive partying and school.

I just had one of those weekends, and I didn’t come out better on the other side.

So, I am moving on.

There are things I want to do with my life, and I think that today would be a great day to start. I know its a bit of a cliche to say so, but I want to do things like Mark Zuckerberg and Kevin Rose have done.

And there is no reason why that cannot be reality.

I just needed to have a little chat with myself, put a little brain matter down on paper. This wont be my first official post, but I’m going to leave it here to remind myself of today.
